Creative Capital State of the Art Prize
A $10,000 unrestricted grant to one artist in every U.S. state and territory, chosen from Creative Capital Award applicants.
About this program
Launched for Creative Capital's 25th anniversary, the State of the Art Prize recognizes one artist residing in each U.S. state and territory (plus DC) with a $10,000 unrestricted grant and access to Creative Capital's Artist Lab online courses. There is no separate application: everyone who applies to the Creative Capital Award open call is automatically considered, using the same criteria. Past Creative Capital Awardees are not eligible, but Prize winners may apply for the Award later. The 2027 open call closed April 2, 2026.
Eligibility
Individual artists who are U.S. citizens, permanent legal residents, O-1 visa holders, or Tribal ID holders, at least 25 years old, with at least 5 years of professional artistic practice, and not enrolled in a degree-granting program. One project application per year. Past Creative Capital Award recipients are not eligible.
