DOE Industrial Efficiency and Decarbonization FOA

DOE funding for R&D and pilot projects on industrial decarbonization technologies in steel, cement, food, paper, and cross-sector applications.

About this program

The Industrial Efficiency and Decarbonization Office (IEDO) issues periodic Funding Opportunity Announcements (FOAs) supporting research, development, and pilot demonstration of technologies that reduce the carbon footprint of U.S. industry. Past FOAs have provided up to $104 million focused on iron and steel, food and beverage, cement and concrete, pulp and paper, chemicals, and cross-sector decarbonization technologies like industrial heat pumps and thermal energy storage. The program complements the larger Industrial Demonstrations Program for earlier-stage technologies.

Eligibility

U.S. companies, national labs, universities, and research institutions working on industrial decarbonization R&D. Both small and large entities can apply, often through teaming arrangements.

Requirements

  • Monitor EERE Exchange for active FOAs
  • Submit concept paper if required
  • Develop detailed technical proposal with project plan
