About this program
Solicitation NSF 26-511 is a pilot emphasis area that funds small businesses developing enabling technologies for scientific discovery, including instrumentation needed for AI-driven science. It uses the same SBIR/STTR mechanisms as the general program: Phase I, Phase II, Fast-Track, and Supplements, with Strategic Breakthrough proposals possible for Phase II awardees on Program Officer recommendation. Each company can receive up to $2.0 million for R&D, and NSF takes no equity. The Project Pitch should specifically target this solicitation rather than the general one.
Eligibility
U.S. small businesses (500 or fewer employees including affiliates) developing scientific instrumentation or enabling research equipment; same eligibility rules as the general NSF SBIR/STTR program.
