DOE program partially guaranteeing up to $20 billion in loans for tribal energy development projects.

About this program

The U.S. Department of Energy's Tribal Energy Loan Guarantee Program (TELGP) can guarantee up to 90% of the unpaid principal and interest on loans made to federally recognized Indian tribes or Alaska Native Corporations for energy development projects and activities. With up to $20 billion in total guarantee authority, the program supports tribal investment in renewable energy generation, transmission, storage, energy efficiency, and conventional energy. The tribal borrower must invest equity and all project debt must come from non-federal lenders.

Eligibility

Federally recognized Indian tribes, Alaska Native Corporations, and tribal energy development organizations pursuing energy development projects. Project debt must come from non-federal lenders.

Requirements

  • Submit Part I (pre-application) for project review
  • Confirm federal recognition of the applicant tribe or Alaska Native Corporation
  • Provide energy project plan, financial model, and equity commitment
