About this program
Research Grants in the Arts fund research studies that investigate the value and/or impact of the arts. Awards range from $20,000 to $100,000 and require a 1:1 cost share. The most recent cycle closed April 2, 2026, with notifications in November 2026 and projects starting no earlier than January 1, 2027. NEA estimates about 35 hours to draft and submit an application after registration.
Eligibility
U.S. nonprofit 501(c)(3) organizations, units of state or local government, and federally recognized tribes with at least 5 years of operating history. Not open to individuals or for-profit businesses.
