About this program
The City of Charleston receives Community Development Block Grant entitlement funds from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development and administers them through the Mayor's Office of Economic and Community Development. CDBG funds support eligible activities that primarily benefit low- and moderate-income residents, eliminate slums or blight, or address urgent community needs. Local uses can include public services, community facilities, infrastructure improvements, housing activities, neighborhood revitalization, and economic development activities that meet HUD requirements.
Eligibility
Eligible nonprofit organizations, public agencies, community partners, and qualified project sponsors serving Charleston residents may seek CDBG funding through the city's annual process.
Requirements
- Project must serve City of Charleston residents or eligible neighborhoods.
- Activity must meet a HUD CDBG national objective and eligible activity category.
- Applicant must be an eligible subrecipient or implementing partner under CDBG rules.
