About this program
Independence uses local tax abatement tools as part of its economic development policy to support eligible projects that broaden the tax base, create or retain jobs, and reinvest in targeted areas of the city.
Eligibility
Eligible businesses, developers, and property owners with qualifying real estate, equipment, redevelopment, or job-creating projects in Independence.
Requirements
- Discuss project with city staff before commencing work
- Submit abatement application materials, project budget, investment, jobs, property, and public benefit information
- Receive required city council, board, and agreement approvals
