About this program
The Workforce Opportunity for Rural Communities (WORC) Initiative is a partnership between the U.S. Department of Labor and the Appalachian Regional Commission, Delta Regional Authority, and Northern Border Regional Commission. WORC grants ($150,000 to $1.5 million each) fund career training and supportive services for workers in these rural regions, helping them secure stable jobs in high-demand occupations such as broadband and cybersecurity, clean energy, healthcare, and advanced manufacturing. Recent funding rounds have totaled $44-49 million across the three regions.
Eligibility
State and local governments, Workforce Development Boards, school districts, tribal organizations, public housing authorities, unions, nonprofits, and colleges serving the Appalachian, Delta, or Northern Border regions.
Requirements
- Located in or serving ARC, DRA, or NBRC region
- Partnership with employers and community organizations
- Workforce training and supportive services plan
