About this program
The Storefront Improvement Program provides free professional design assistance and reimbursement incentives to small businesses in the City of San Diego that make approved improvements to street-facing storefronts, including awnings, windows, doors, lighting, paint, landscaping, tile, decorative materials, and signage.
Eligibility
City of San Diego small businesses with 25 or fewer employees, a valid business tax certificate, a street-facing commercial storefront, and no disqualifying franchise, office, residential, government, home-based, or religious use.
Requirements
- Apply before beginning any construction or renovation work
- Provide storefront photos, property owner permission, business tax certificate, and refundable deposit after approval
- Use licensed vendors and submit expense documentation for reimbursement
