Independence administers CDBG funds for eligible neighborhood, housing, community facility, service, and economic opportunity projects.

About this program

The City of Independence receives Community Development Block Grant funds annually from HUD to revitalize neighborhoods, expand affordable housing and economic opportunities, and improve community facilities and services principally for low- and moderate-income residents. Local applications are reviewed through the City's CDBG process and recommendations are made for public service and other eligible activities.

Eligibility

Eligible nonprofits, public agencies, community organizations, and qualified project sponsors serving Independence residents or neighborhoods may apply when the City opens its CDBG funding process.

Requirements

  • Project must serve Independence residents or neighborhoods.
  • Activity must meet a HUD CDBG national objective.
  • Applicant must be an eligible organization or implementing partner under CDBG rules.
